About Mrs. Joest
I have been happily teaching art at Downey High School since 2005. Before taking on Ceramics instruction in 2014, I taught Art Design and Art 1/2. My current course list consists of Ceramics, Advanced Ceramics and AP Studio Art, 3-D. In 2022, I became VAPA Department Chair.
After graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Art with a Crafts emphasis (Jewelry, Metalsmithing, Woodworking and Ceramics) and a Bachelor of Art in Art Education from California State University, Fullerton, I received my California State Teaching Credential from the same school.
I've been married to my awesome husband Scott for 16 years and have two children. My son Noah is 15 and my daughter Taylor is 12. I am an avid couch potato, lover of Narwhals, Bob Ross and desperate connoisseur of fine cheeses. I spend most of my free time with my friends and family while procrastinating my many DIY projects and drinking coffee...probably at the same time.
I have a varied plethora of interests and hobbies. Other than playing in the mud, you can likely catch me sporting my ear buds listening to my auddiction (audio books). I enjoy a variety of literary genres including classic literature, Historical Fiction, Fantasy and Sci-Fi. Although I don't typically watch t.v. because my children won't let me, I do consider myself a movie nerd of the Star Wars and Comic Book variety. I also kind of enjoy making cool, and creative artsy type stuff with my hands.
